pamela royal carney
Born in
Houston, Texas, Pamela began ballet classes with Margo Marshall and
performed with Greater Houston Civic Ballet. During the summers
throughout high school she trained with many world-renowned teachers
such as Anne Marie Holmes, Robert Joffrey, David Howard and many
others in
New York and
Europe. Upon completion of her academic studies, she joined
Boston Ballet as a corps dancer and was promoted to soloist six
years later. While at Boston Ballet, she toured throughout the world
dancing in many countries such as
Italy,
Belgium, England, France, China, Mexico, Israel and Hong Kong as
well as several cities in the United States. Pamela performed many
roles in her career including Sugar Plum Fairy and Snow Queen in
Nutcracker, Myrtha in Giselle and Lilac Fairy in Sleeping Beauty.
She especially enjoyed Balanchine ballets such as Serenade, Concerto
Barocco, and Rubies. After performing professionally for thirteen
years she retired to start her family with husband Devon Carney, who
was at that time a principal dancer with Boston Ballet. They now
have two children, Lauren and Ryan.
Pamela has taught
ballet her whole professional career, and since retiring, at many
schools. In
Boston,
she taught at the Boston Ballet School, Walnut Hill School and at
the Boston Ballet Summer Program to name a few. Since moving to
Cincinnati in 2003, she has been teaching at Mason Dance and the
Otto M. Budig Academy of Cincinnati Ballet. |
